2023 marks 30 years since the launch of BFC NEWGEN, a showcasing support scheme which was established in 1993 to enable a group of designers, including the late Lee Alexander McQueen, to showcase their collections at London Fashion Week.
The year long celebration of NEWGEN 30 will culminate with a landmark exhibition at the Design Museum in London. The exhibition, REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion, is sponsored by Alexander McQueen. Guest curated by Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Design Museum Senior Curator, Rebecca Lewin, the exhibition will be open from until 11th February 2024, tickets on sale now.
To celebrate three decades of nurturing future generations of excellence, and to continue raising crucial funds, seven BFC NEWGEN Alumni designers: Ahluwalia, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Giles Deacon, Halpern, Mary Katrantzou and Roksanda, kindly donated signature prints that have been beautifully reimagined into a limited edition run of keepsakes. The collection of luxury tote bags have been consciously developed and manufactured in India by a majority female workforce, printed using REACH compliant non-toxic inks on sustainably sourced cotton, and all in partnership with Bags of Ethics. A donation from each bag goes directly to the charity which supports the next generation of young designers in the UK through the BFC Foundation.
