Bags of Ethics and the British Fashion Council (BFC) have joined forces to mark the 30th anniversary of the BFC NEWGEN initiative, a showcasing support scheme which was established in 1993 and has supported over 300 designers. To celebrate and support future talents, eight NEWGEN Alumni designers have donated signature prints which were brought to life in an exhibition at the Design Museum, Kensington.
Travelers passing through Heathrow can now purchase these limited edition bags designed by fashion icons such as Ahluwalia, Giles Deacon, ROKSANDA, and more throughout 2024. Available at key retail spots like Harrods, Case, WHSmith and World Duty-Free, these commemorative bags range from £9.99 to £70.00, with a portion of each sale supporting the BFC Foundation. Passengers also have a shot at winning backstage access to London Fashion Week and an overnight stay at Treehouse London.
The sustainable items are alternatives to single-use plastic and have been manufactured by a 80% women workforce in Pondicherry, India, using sustainably-farmed cotton, printed using REACH compliant non-toxic inks, and supporting sustainable practices across the supply chain. These bags embody the intersection of fashion, travel, and sustainability. Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow, expresses pride in showcasing emerging designers globally and championing sustainable practices.
This collaboration not only brings fashion to the airport terminals but also underlines Heathrow’s role as a hub for trade, tourism, and investment. As we take off into 2024, Heathrow invites travelers to join the celebration of London Fashion Week, embracing British fashion’s artistry, innovation, and sustainability.
