At Bags of EthicsTM we have developed a range of reusable face mask to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
These face coverings have been developed by British and European scientists and designers to control the spread of bacteria from the mouth and nose of those who may have the virus but who show no symptoms.

People who have COVID-19 but that are asymptomatic may inadvertently spread the virus through things like breathing, coughing, sneezing and speaking.

Droplets from the mouth can spread up to 8m, well beyond social distancing distances, and therefore infect other people around the person carrying the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, a face mask helps stop the spread of the droplets and limit the spread of coronavirus.

Reusable face masks help keep the supply of surgical masks available for the healthcare workers who need them most and help save the planet from harmful single-use plastic.

EASY TO USE

When using your BOE protective mask we suggest that you place the nose covering mask over your face and loop the elastic bands over your ears. You need to make sure that the mask covers the top of your nose, and under your chin. You should press down on the nose strip to adjust to a snug fit. You should be able to breathe and talk, without the sides of the mask billowing. After use, or once damp, remove the mask and put it in your protective pouch if you cannot wash it straight away. This prevents the spread of the virus onto other items.

Wash your reusable mask cloth after use, with soap or detergent, and make sure that the soap foams properly. You should then air dry your adult size face mask. You should then reuse your mask, and you should be able to reuse it 50 plus times. If you want to add your own filter into your reusable mask with filter, look for the panel inside the mask to insert it in. We advise that you don’t fiddle with your gingham face mask when wearing it. To recycle the handmade face cover (if you are no longer reusing it), cut the cotton panels – these are compostable. The elastic loops can be recycled subject to local council regulations.

Goodbye Single-Use Plastic

We want to say goodbye to single-use plastic with our reusable masks UK. Disposable face masks if not disposed of by non-healthcare professionals correctly, can have a devastating effect on our planet and communities.

Over 150 million tons of single-use plastic is produced each year. With the increased usage of surgical single-use plastic masks by the general public, and with many not being disposed of correctly, single-use masks can create a bigger environmental issue.

On the beaches of Hong Kong, hundreds of masks are already being washed up, threatening the eco-systems of the wildlife that inhabits our oceans. Our reusable masks UK contain no single-use plastic and help to limit the amount of single-use masks being used around the world.

People in Our Supply Chain

Our BOE unisex face masks are mainly assembled in London, with the raw materials coming from our partner Supreme Creation’s factory in Pondicherry, south India. The factory supports a community and is made up of a 90% female workforce who work in merchandising, design, tailoring, fabric checking, printing and packing. The factory has one of the lowest turnovers of its employees in the textile industry, which is usually notorious for a high staff turnover and unfair treatment. Many of the employees have been at the factory for 15 years. Products are made by hand with love and care. We also make sure that the production of our masks is as sustainable as possible. As well as using GOTS certified organic cotton and REACH compliant inks, we do things like trying to ship as many products by sea freight rather than air and limit our water usage all in order to reduce our carbon footprint.

Scientific Community Conversation on Masks

George GaoEldad EinavBrienen, Nicole CJ
The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role—you’ve got to wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth. Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others.
George Gao
Director - General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention
As the weight of evidence shifts toward supporting a major role for asymptomatic transmission, the use of personal facemasks, especially in crowded areas, becomes instrumental in preventing community spread of the virus. We can no longer rely on symptoms or screening to tell us whether mask protection is needed.
