Info for Parents & Guardians
As parents and guardians of future caretakers of our precious planet, we are delighted that you are considering signing up your child for the Green Tree Badge.
The Green Tree Badge has been put together with great thought on the format of the programme, using a hardback Activities Passbook to form part of the learning journey. We felt it best to avoid having the passbook in digital formatso that there is little distraction on phones and tablets.
The Activity Passbook and Registration Fees
- The size of the Activity Passbook (hardback) should fit into a small rucksack or bag – perfect for when you are outdoors and conducting the activities.
- Inside the Activity Passbook are pages for you to write down your answers or log your activities with a pencil or pen.
- For each of the 4 themes in the book (Growing Tall, Food, Shelter, Trees & Me) there is a log page so you can stick the theme stickers once each activity is completed.
- Spare sticker sheets are inside the passbook.
- Areas to visit: Listed at the back of the Activity Passbook are places of local, national, and international areas which feature brilliant trees. As you might be planning your weekends, free time, or holidays with your children, please consider going to these natural wonder sites – some of which are free to visit.
- Keepsake: The Green Tree Badge Activity Passbook is for you to keep and look back at, as a source of inspiration, and for recognising trees. It is not to be sent back upon completion.
What are the Registration Fees
The £12 charge to register includes:
- The Activity Passbook filled with 24+ activities, stickers, a nature journal, and areas to visit.
- It also includes one Official Green Tree Badge (it does not include postage.)
- The Official Green Tree Badge is a fabric badge that can be ironed onto an item of clothing, blanket, textile bag, or apparel.
How Does the Green Tree Badge Work
- Buy or get a donated Activity Passbook, and register your child online here.
- Each time your child completes the activity please log back into your Treehouse Portal and confirm that your child has conducted the activity.
- We are working on goodwill for the standard Green Tree Badges (non-gold) where a consented adult confirms that the child has conducted the activities.
- Once two activities from each of the four themes: Growing Tall, Food, Shelter, Trees & Me, i.e. a minimum of eight activities have been completed, your child is entitled to receive a Green Tree Badge.
- Activities can be done throughout the year, with some of them being seasonal-specific. Please look at the “Best time of year” section in each activity section
- Gold awards are given out to children who complete the basic Green Tree Badge and additionally the 4 Gold activities (one for each theme). Children are asked to submit and upload evidence of activities for the Gold Themes through their Treehouse Portal. Gold Green Tree Badges will be awarded to children after they are assessed by our judging panel, and some Gold Badges will be handed out at special events held across the country.
